I’m not so sure I would 100% agree w/ your engineering VP. I think they are thinking of operations as DevOps. DevOps is about continuous everything, but it is also built on top of a lot of vision for what are the measures of success, or just measures of trending forward. There is a north and north is more than just above the equator.

I think DesignOps has components that continue but also have stages of maturity and development. E.g. the human resource side or PeopleOps has a lot of components that while not static b/c we always learn do progress hopefully along a line of set principles and measures that you measure and compare to. You need a vision in order to understand those measures, or even discover them and the principles they represent.

The same could be said for the workflow operations and biz operations components as well. E.g. if I’m building a design system there are a few components related to operationalizing it that have roots in the culture of the organization (design and the rest of product).

While I appreciate the concept of CI/CD for continuous learning and like to create cultures where learning is a core component, I do also believe in creating a sense of direction in an organization through low-fidelity vision work to help guide an understanding of trending.
